The Seat Bag
The seat bag was a material research project, where the main intention was to design something that allowed you to be present on site. The site was False Creek, a short narrow inlet in the heart of Vancouver, where the material being researched was felt.
I noticed two main struggles when trying to be present in Vancouver: rain and cold, especially when sitting down. These two factors always were a limitation for me to be present, so I created an object that would help with this common issue.
The seat bag has a particular egg shape that works as a wrap when you sit on it. The inside is 100% felted wool (made on the felt loom as part of the material research), and the outside is made from off-cuts from a water-proof fabric.
The juxtaposition of the solid water-proof fabric next to the felted wool creates the perfect mix for the individual to get warm while sitting down in the always rainy Vancouver.
